The City Council of Ames presented yesterday a new didactic workshop on urbanism and heritage that will allow schoolchildren and young people from 12 to 21 years old to know in detail the spaces in which they live and participate in the design of a future strategy to improve their environment. .
The project, which involves the departments of Culture, Urban Planning and Mocidade, was launched in Rianxo and is being held in different municipalities in Galicia and other autonomous communities. The Councilor for Town Planning, Blas García, pointed out in the presentation of the activity that “Ames is a two councils that best adapts to this project, because it is the most newly populated municipality in all of Galicia.” He stressed that “the really interesting thing about this project is to know what the children of Bertamiráns and not Milladoiro would change and what they would keep.” This perception of the participants about the urbanism of the environment in which they live will be collected in a work at the end of the activity.

The Santiago Delegation of the College of Architects of Galicia hosted today the presentation of the book “A vila do mañana, Rianxo” by architects Sandra González Álvarez and Emma López Bahut, the first publication of the “La ciudad del mañana” project. The book was published jointly by PØSTarquitectos and the Association for the Defense of Galician Cultural Heritage (Apatrigal). The event was presented by the president of the Association for the Defense of Galician Cultural Heritage, Carlos Henrique Fernández Coto, the mayor of Rianxo, Adolfo Muíños Sánchez, and the architects who authored the book, Sandra González Álvarez and Emma López Bahut

What would a city look like built to inhabit, to walk, to be and to live and not just to go and come from home to work and school, and from the gym to the mall? What would a city designed for boys and girls look like? There are many movements that have been calling for more humane urban spaces that focus on pedestrians and not motor vehicles. In some cases, boys and girls are given a leading role in this reflection; firstly because they will be the ones who will inhabit these cities and towns in the future, and secondly because they are the ones who occupy and make the most of these spaces in the present: places to play or travel on foot.”
