The aim of ‘A Vila da Mañá’ is to change the model of town or city, we believe that another one can be possible. This is achieved through the protagonist participation of local children and adolescents who, by working with fundamental concepts through tactical urban planning actions, become active citizens capable of transforming their spaces.

Neste caso trabállase coa percepción, ca do propio corpo e da contorna que os rodea. Entendendo como perciben a súa vila, tratamos de provocar nas nenas, nenos e adolescentes unha nova visión dos espazos cotiás, buscando romper co coñecido e que poidan ver os mesmos lugares con outros ollos.

“O propósito da arte é o de impartir a sensación das cousas como son percibidas e non como son sabidas (ou concebidas). A técnica da arte “estrañar” aos obxectos, de facer difíciles as formas, de incrementar a dificultade e magnitude da percepción non é estético como un fin en si mesmo e debe ser prolongado. ‘A Vila do Mañá’ emerges from the right to the city, as defended by Henri Lefebvre, so that the people who live in it have the right to enjoy it, to transform it and to reflect their way of understanding life in the community. From this point of view, how can we not include the right of children and adolescents to their city? For this reason, public space is considered a common space for learning and collective construction in which children and adolescents must also have a place.

CONEXIONS IN THE EUROPEAN TERRITORY

The chosen place was found between Valentín Viqueira Street, Ramón e Cajal Street and Alcalde Rey Daviña Street.

Images were projected in an established space by the processes and mechanisms that were carried out to improve mobility in Europe. It is necessary to know and discover new models of mobility, new strategies and innovative connective systems of the territory.

knowing Vilagarcia’s past

Photographs of Vilagarcia urban scenes were exhibited. The photos were placed exactly where they were taken in the past. In this way we point out how the space has changed, how to use it and how to occupy it.

Photographs of old Vilagarcía show the city through the streets, with pedestrians, cyclists, walkers…and also arouse nostalgia. We forget that part of the beauty of these images lies in the lack of vehicles…the image seems more human, less congested…the environment changes.
This is what we want to convey with this activity: how the mere fact of using the streets for people completely changes that place atmosphere.

The aim of ‘A Vila da Mañá’ is to change the model of town or city, we believe that another one can be possible. This is achieved through the protagonist participation of local children and adolescents who, by working with fundamental concepts through tactical urban planning actions, become active citizens capable of transforming their spaces.

In this case, you work with the space, being the body that travels and plays in the spaces with all the senses deployed, through the experimentation of light, texture, colour, sound… transforming public spaces into common ones.

“But the line hides among its other properties, and ultimately, the deeply hidden desire to procreate a plane, thus becoming a denser entity, more closed. […] When the line dies, at what point does the plane emerge? […] By basic plan is understood the material surface called to receive the content of the work. […] The schematic basic plane is limited by 2 horizontal and 2 vertical lines, and thus acquires, in relation to the environment that surrounds it, an independent entity.”

What is your city like? Which elements would you highlight?

“A good urban acupuncture would be one that enables everyone to know their city. How many people, in reality, truly know their own city? It’s hard to respect what you don’t know. But how can you respect your city if you don’t understand it? Draw your city. […] But how can you improve your city if you don’t even know it well? What do you do for it, if you’re not even able to draw it? That’s the crux of the matter.”

Work begins with PERCEPTION. How do the future inhabitants of the place perceive their village or city? To explore this, participants are invited to use simple drawings to show us which elements they consider fundamental or particularly interesting in their village or city. In this way, we can understand their individual views of the place they live in and begin to build a collective vision shared by all participants.
